Forgot to add a teeny-tiny plug for the "Nebula" album. The reviews are starting to roll in. If interested, see them here:

Here's the latest version of it with the 3:7 divided into 3:2 eighth note triplets, that is, with nested tuplets. Note: it's two pages long now.

I also wrote out an 18:7, just for yuks!

Excellent Brad!

I would suggest one more tiny change (I'm probably driving you crazy!)

In the fifth line where you have the three triplet groupings bracketed with the 3:2 ratios, I would suggest disconnecting the beams between the triplet groupings in order to make things a little clearer visually. In other words, the beams for the triplets would only extend as far as the brackets. This would be exactly how I would write it!

Thanks again!

Steve M,
Thanks for the detailed info. This is really cool. I will definitely try and learn this if for no other reason than to stave off Alzheimer's.

Now don't all y'all in here run out & twist up your bandmates & the dancefloor's briefs ['n bobbysox] trying to lay these motifs down in your next break in that pop/dance-cover-tune during the set...unless you want the dancefloor to look like

Excellent job, SM [awa V]. Thx so much.

If I learn this stuff before I'm 98 I'll be doing just fine.

Wink

...then better start by 7! ;-]

...so by 9 you'll be "on it."
By 18, you'll be ragin'.
By 98...you'll be an Olfart...but playing unfathomable, mystical, magical metric motifs on your big-band, dixieland, or Anka/Sinatra type gig...you'll be the hit of the party; the only folks laughing will be you & the bassist...but then again, eh, everyone'll prob be doing it by then. It'll be like odd-meter in Greek music. And the whole crowd will be laughing. "OH, that coy little devil drummer-guy! [Tried to scrue up my true waltz skillz! Word!]"

Heh heh. Picture it [Don't be afraid to try...] /;-p

Hello All,

The 9 over 7 thread lives!

I've been away for a while, but I noticed GAMG's post and couldn't resist.

98 over 7 is actually very easy. Simply play 32nd note septuplets in 7/4 time--this is 98 over 7! Enjoy!
